Social Media

I’m a member of the Women Business Owners of Manitoba.  We meet every month.  Last night we had 4 guest talk about social media.  Christine Dubyts owner of Dubyts communications talked about facebook.  Aileen Berger with The Winnipeg Humane Society chatted about Websites. Ian McCausland Photography inspired us about blogging, and lastly Alex Morrison from x-lab interactive discussed Mobile Marketing.  Quite the panel of experts.   They were each given 7 minutes….wow, not nearly enough time.  I’m sure each one could talk for at least 7 hours on their chosen topic! They did however answer lots of questions and went into overtime.

It truly was inspiring, and I was happy to learn that I’ve been doing some social media right, but could definitely improve on other aspects.    Some of the social media I partake in is this blog which is attached to my website and my linkedin account.  I also have a facebook fan page with 287 fans!!!  here is the link if you’re not a fan but want to follow me there.

facebook

I’m not into twitter, instagram, pinterest or anything else that requires my precious time.  After all you can’t do everything…..right?  I don’t have a QR code, but think it would be a good idea…what do you think?

WBOM is a great organization for women business owners, I don’t make it to every meeting, but I always manage to meet  new and old friends when I attend.  I  find new business contacts that require my services.  I also use services from other members. It’s a win/win situation!  The members are awesome and networking is fantastic!  So if your interested give them a try.   I’ll be sponsoring my photographic services at their upcoming tulips and tea fashion show.  If you’re interested in more information about WBOM or the fashion show here is their link.

real estate agents

Meet Stacey Purves-Repay a real estate agent with Century 21 carrie.com.

Stacey is one of those people who doesn’t like having her photo taken.  After looking at her last business card I can see why…. the color tone between her face and neck was completely different! The previous photographer put a little weight on her face by the angle it was photographed at also.     I assured Stacey it wouldn’t hurt and I won’t be adding weight I’ll be taking it away.  She wasn’t leaving my studio until she was thrilled with her portrait!

In the market for a real estate agent?  contact Stacey!

Caribbean Cruising…

I just came back from 17 day’s of pure pleasure.  Anywhere above 0 this time of year is heaven, as winter in Winnipeg has been very cold this year.   I went on a 11 night cruise with Royal Caribbean “Legend of the Seas”  out of Fort Lauderdale.  Then upon our return rented a car and drove the overseas highway down to key west.  What a adventure,  I had a fabulous time!  The ship had a mini golf course,  rock climbing wall and a outdoor movie screen, which was awesome for movies at night.  The food was excellent and I stuffed myself full of fresh salads and fruits, and a little treat everyday.  I’m happy to say I didn’t put any weight on!  LOL 0020 I took over 1300 images, so needless to say I’ll only share a few of my favourites with you. Starting with our first stop… Aruba, I was surprised that it’s a desert Island, with many cactus. I thought for a minute we ended up in Arizona! 0172 0160

We took a tour on this funky bus around part of the island, no windows…just natural air conditioning!

0203

Managed to do a little shopping in the port.  I was in the market for a new watch and thought a “michele” watch would be NICE…. well until I saw the price tag!  Kind of neat to see my name  on a banner beside Dior, and they spelt it right!

0240

Bonaire, another desert Island….  It’s know for it’s wild Flamingos.  I saw a group in the distance but not even worth a photo….  On our tour of the island we viewed the salt mines. Hard to believe, how high these salt piles are.

This view was on the opposite side of the road from salt hills.

0291The slaves slept in these tiny huts.

0326

Crushed coral is everywhere

0328

This fence should keep unwanted visitors out!

Grenada is our next stop, the island kind of smells like spices!  Cocoa pods, cinnamon and nutmeg are all exported from this Island paradise.   I sure hope it’s cinnamon I purchased!

This is what cocoa pods look like off the tree.

0476

St. Lucia – lush and oh so tropical!

Amazing Orchids, just hanging in mid air. 0693

Barbadoes – beautiful view’s to take in.

Labadee Haiti  – day at the beach!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These guy’s entertained us all afternoon…. love those steel drums!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The drive from Fort Lauderdale to  Key West was fabulous, It’s one of the nicest highway’s I’ve been on (sorry Pacific coast hwy is still #1 for me) I have no idea how many bridges we went over, but the view’s from the restaurants in Key Largo and our hotel  shown below were breath taking! I got up before sunrise to capture this image.

1019

You can’t go to Key West and miss the Hogs Breath cafe. They have live streaming camera’s so your friends back home can watch you.  Which is exactly what I did!

1083Only one way to see Key West, that is the trolley tour.  You get a bit of history and they do the driving!

1056 Hope you’ve enjoyed a few highlights!

kiss for a cure

I’m so excited to partner with the Canadian Breast foundation Prairies/NWT with the kiss for the cure campaign.  I’ve been photographing weddings in winnipeg since 1990 and love the energy from them.  If couple sign up for the program they will have 1 in 12 chances to win a portrait session and a 8×10.  I will also be donating 100. to the Canadian Breast foundation prairies/NWT with every wedding I book.

What is kiss for cure?  At weddings, it’s tradition for guests to clink their glasses to initiate the first kisses of the newlyweds. Start a new tradition by asking your guests to make a donation to the Foundation to get you to pucker up! Or auction off kisses from your other guests!

 kiss for a cure

The Canadian Breast Foundation will be at the Wonderful Wedding Show in Winnipeg January 18-19.

Happy New Year… a little late

I must admit it’s been a brutal winter here in Winnipeg. I’m not much of a winter person and it takes me a lot to get motivated to go outside when the temps it -45+.   December was the coldest winter in 80 years!  The other night was -51 and it warmed up yesterday but not enuf to head outside.  As I listen to the radio this am, all winnipeg school buses have been shut down. The schools are open though.   If you’re looking for a tow, it’s about 24 hours from CAA.

My first portrait session of the year has been cancelled, as my studio is just frigid in these temps.  We can wait for a warmer day…

I saw this frost on inside of my door handle….doesn’t encourage me to go outside.

The shot that got away….

It’s  7:00 am and I’m sipping coffee going through my emails,  as I sit in my office and look out the window  I see the full moon and some soft clouds going across it.  Really quite breath taking.  I was reading a email from Mike Grandmaison and admiring his beautiful winter card.  Mike is a awesome landscape photographer and I have purchased a few of this books.  check out some of his work .     I really should do a image for  my Christmas Card instead of waiting until the last minute and purchasing them.   Have you noticed most of the cards this year have glitter on them?     It looks like fairies have taken over my office! LOL

Anyway….   I  was kind of inspired to take out the camera and capture the moon.   Albeit from the inside.  Just as I pulled out my camera with the zoom lens and held it up for my shot the clouds rolled in and most of the moon was gone and it looked more like a UFO! LOL _MG_7243  geeze.   Everyone has a shot that got away!

Alpine Animal Hospital

Every year I’m asked by a friend to help photograph Santa with pets at the Alpine Animal Hospital, and every year I say no.   I’m allergic to dogs and cats and chicken feathers! This year I couldn’t say no to my friend as he is going through some personal issues and really needed me.  Not just to help, but to take over!  So I headed to the pharmacy and loaded up on allergy pills to make it through the day.    Much to my surprize the day was fun, and I was reminded how much people love their pets and will do anything for them.  This is the first time I’ve ever photographed pets with Santa and I think I did ok. I wanted to share some of my favourites._MG_7191 _MG_7101 _MG_7030We just had the usual dogs and cats, no one brought in their pet chicken! LOL

Thanks to the Alpine Animal Hospital for hosting this event, everyone that come out had a few nice images to choose from, and I really enjoyed it.  I might even help out next year!
