family portraits….precious
My last post was of a awesome family dressed in purple. The mother is beautiful, however when she picked up her portraits yesterday morning I could tell something was wrong. She didn’t look well, I asked her how she was doing and she told me the horrible news….
Her kids were best friends with Ana Greene and her brother, when they lived in Winnipeg. The family moved from Winnipeg to Newtown Connecticut earlier this year. Ana Marquez-Greene, aged six, was one of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. United States.
What a horrible day for the families, my heart goes out to them…. god bless

The Chick Magnet….Winnipeg Baby Photographer
Check out this cute little man, he was a little old for a new born photo. Hard to believe being to old at only a few months! I was still able to capture some pretty cute expressions by himself and with mom and dad.

Sunrise Memorial – Winnipeg
It was my honor once again this year to photograph the sunrise memorial at Winnipeg’s Legislature. Dec 6 is Canada’s Day of Remembrance and action on violence against women. In 1989, when 14 women were shot to death in Montreal by a man deliberately targeting women on a busy campus, Canadians reacted with shock, sorrow and outrage. A strong lobby formed to bring guns under control in Canada, work that continues to this day.
This was a candle light ceremony also honoring Manitoba women who have lost their lives to violence. It was nice to see 14 young candle lighters this year.
Group Photo – Winnipeg Photographer
I helped out with a major group photo today. The Manitoba legislative assembly! It’s a little intimating trying to orchestrate the leaders (NDP) and opposition leaders (PC) of our province. I suppose one should feel a little nervous about such a large shoot. It’s when you become cocky with a ego that things go wrong! I was so grateful all the equipment we used and rented worked! It took us about 2.5 hours to set up lighting, and fuss over every detail in the scene. About 5 minutes to shoot, then tear all the lights down…. Overall the shoot was a huge success 🙂
Dear Santa Clause…. Winnipeg Photographer
Every year I photograph kids with Santa for the same clients in Winnipeg. Breakfast with Santa today was incredible! I had the best eggs Benedict at the Winnipeg Winter Club ever! Santa made an appearance after parking his reindeer on the roof top, and we the fun shoot with not only small kids but bug kids at heart. Almost everyone had their portraits taken with Santa and just smiling from ear to ear.
One thing I have noticed over the years is parents DON’T let their kids cry for a minute. They pick them up and sooth them……
When I was a kid I have a photo of either myself or my brother crying our eyes out. Scared out of our wits of the “guy” wearing the red suit. Are today”s kids missing out on a big laugh down the road? Here are the two Santa’s with took part in today’s photo shoots.
I think the first one looks a little more authentic, maybe it’s just the age….
They were both great with the kids!!!!
CT Scanner Portrait – Selkirk Manitoba
I drove to Selkirk Manitoba today, it’s just north of Winnipeg. At the general hospital is the provinces “best” CT scanner. Selkirk and District General Hospital is home to a computed tomography (CT) scanner that is among the most advanced operating in Canada today. I was privileged to meet Dr. Dan Lindsey a radiologist who works on this amazing piece of equipment.

Chained to the computer today!
This time of year I always have a ton of retouching to do, and spent most of the day in front of the computer making my clients and myself look even more fabulous. I love digital photography and all the possibilities of creating beautiful portraits. But I must say it’s not nice to people’s skin. It is incredibly sharp and show’s every detail! I swear the pixels are like x-ray beams and laser right through any make up that is put on!
I thought I would share some before, after and overdone portrait retouching techniques in Photo shop. This is one of my favorite portraits from yesterday. Anyone can take a photo with today’s camera’s. A professional photographer will spend the time putting in that little extra effort to make you look fabulous!
What do you think? Can you see the difference? Is the “too much” too much?
Under the Black Light
It really was an amazing day today. This morning I was at a local aerospace company photographing parts under black light. Years ago I was written up in a article about my black light techniques, this was in the good old film days. The theory still is the same with digital however the prints need to be one to one after printed, and this takes a long time in Photoshop I’m always amazed at how “stuff” looks under this kind of light. Even your freshly cleaned clothes look like they could use a washing from the lint.
I then went into my studio for my business portrait. Every two years I force myself to have one taken. Mainly for my web site, and Facebook I never want to be the shoe maker whose kids have no shoes! I believe even as adults we change every few years and should be photographed. This year my good friend and little sister Laurel Nash had the challenge. After all she didn’t have that much to work with. Laurel is an aspiring photographer who I’ve helped over the years. You can check out some of her work at http://www.laurelnashphotography.com I first meet Laurel when she was 7 and have been her “big sister” ever since. It’s been just over 30 years! Hard to believe we have known each other that long. Laurel did an amazing job photographing me, and I will post a few of my favorites in the coming days….
