Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Philanthropy Necklace

I’ve partnered up with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation  to raise money. This partnership has been in the works for a few months and I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be a part of it though jewelry designer Hilary Druxman.

I was mesmerized and humbled by all the beautiful Philanthropy Necklaces created by Hilary.  All proceeds will be invested in research and breast health education and community health programs that are supporting groundbreaking work across the breast cancer spectrum throughout the Prairies region. Hilary  created this beautiful necklace. Its a Sterling silver pendant on a 16-18″ chain. Accented with a small pink tourmaline.

1 Lip Lock With each necklace purchase, you’ll receive a certificate for a complimentary portrait session from Photography by Michele.  This can be used for individual, kids, couple, family or all of the above.  10% of  the print orders will  be donated back to the Canadian Breast cancer Foundation!

What better way to say you care than by saying it with a KISS?

Doctors Manitoba – Fit Kids Healthy Kids

Doctors Manitoba’s vision is “A vibrant medical profession and a healthy population in Manitoba”. One Strategic Theme covers Advocacy Innovation and Leadership and proposes that “Members feel that Doctors Manitoba is projecting a positive public image for physicians “.

With that background Doctors Manitoba looked at making a positive contribution to improve the health of Manitobans. With a view to achieving this, Doctors Manitoba looked at some of the projects other medical associations supported. Several medical associations have programs supporting health and fitness.

Most notable is Doctors Nova Scotia which has promoted a Kids Run Club for over a decade encouraging school children to participate.

In Spring 2013 the Board approached Sport Manitoba to look at developing a partnership. The focus would be to encourage children from the lower socioeconomic spectrum to focus on their fitness and health.

In June 2013 the Board approved the sponsorship of the new program called Fit Kids Healthy Kids.

Doctors Manitoba is pleased to report that the first year has been a resounding success. Michelle Johnson and her team of summer students and volunteers have had a positive impact on the lives of literally thousands of kids. Over 7,000 inner city and aboriginal children have been introduced to Fit Kids Healthy Kids.

Doctors Manitoba original commitment was for 2 ½ years. However, based on the success of the program, Sport Manitoba and Doctors Manitoba are in discussions to increase the funding commitment to 5 years. Doctors Manitoba is looking to directly engage physicians in this project in 2015.

Before and After – Cake Smash!

I just love photographing kids!  Especially when they are this cute.

Annika is 1 year today, and came into the studio yesterday for her portrait and to smash her birthday cake.  This is fun to watch as anything can happen!

Santa Baby!

I think 6 months old is the perfect age to photograph kids, all they do is sit and play with their toes.  They haven’t figured out how to crawl away and are easily entertained.

Love this little princess ….

Free Ride

Yesterday…… I photographed free ride so far away

Now it looks as though the jpegs are here to stay

oh, I believe in yesterday…..  LOL   Seriously, who doesn’t like the Beatles?! Free Ride Beatles

In 1980, four young Winnipeg lads got together with an idea of a band which brought together the “World’s Greatest Entertainers”, live on stage.
Since the four lads grew up with the Beatles, everyone suggested
“Let’s do the biggest things that happened to Rock ‘n’ Roll!” and almost 35 years later Free Ride is still going strong.

It was a honour to meet and photograph them, and they even hummed  a few bars of “Michele my belle”  🙂

Details in a Traditional Wedding

Nov 15, 2014 was the date of a classy, traditional wedding, much like  the couple. It was  such a joy to photograph Alanna + Adrian.  It reminded me of photographing weddings when I first started out 25 years ago.  I think I was 4 years old….LOL   Back then it was more about creating traditional images, not leaping though sunflower fields or standing in a back alley with graffiti.   Oh how the style of wedding photography has changed!

I wanted to share some of the details that go into a wedding.  I always photograph the little things, as they make great backdrops for the wedding album, and  a nice rememberance of what makes the day so special.

Beautiful gifts002

Champagne flutes for the toast to the bridecheers!

Brides shoes for the day!  shoes!

The rings always have special meaning, however Adrian’s father made these. Tabernacle Baptist Church

Beautiful flowers on such a cold winters day. Tabernacle Baptist Church

Traditional photography means taking your time, so instead of hand holding the camera I use a tripod.  Slowing down and focusing on  posing and lighting reflects in the quality of a  timeless image.  Traditional,  excellent quality photography will never go out of style.

Congratulations to Alanna + Adrain,  all the best in love and laughter!

OLIVER LEADERSHIP INC.

Brenda Oliver is the founder & president of OLIVER LEADERSHIP INC. – a Leadership Development Practice since 2003 – helping people and organizations to success – through self-discovery processes

I had the pleasure of photographing Brenda in the studio,  She requested a simple white background so her graphic designers could crop  the photo and place it on different backgrounds.  The colour White or a Green works really well for this kind of application.

She came with her husband Wayne, and he mention it was their 25th wedding anniversary.  I just had to take a photo of the two of them, on the house of course!

Telling a story with family portraits

I recently photographed a family with two energetic kids in my studio.  I wanted to try a pyramid theme for something a little different. It was challenging  getting the 4 year old to stay up on his brother.    The dad was getting a little tired of all the weight too…LOL   I thought when I asked the kids to roll off their parents  I’d take a few photos.  I love the looks on all their faces.  The top image can certainly hang on the wall by it’s self, but when you add the other two photos it sure tells a story.   Gone are the days of serious family portraits!

Dr. Heather Dean

I had the pleasure of photographing Dr. Heather Dean for a upcoming article.  Her current position is Researcher, Manitoba Institute of Child Health; Staff Endocrinologist, Department of Pediatrics & Child Health, Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg; Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba.  Which is quite a list for a “current position”!

In the pouring rain, I drove out to her home in the country and was amazed at the carefree lifestyle she shares with her family.  There were so many options  for the portraits outside, that she insisted I wear her rubber boots and I was rather amused when her husband brought them to me. They fit perfectly and were so adorable I had to photograph them.

Heather has a amazing garden, and gave me a handful of parsley for the drive home. Check out the tomatoes, she barely stopped for me to take the photo.

We needed a few differant photos to cover the article, we took cover under a tree which made for a beautiful frame for the farm equipment in the background.  The  work gloves remained on, and the word “mom” had to be in the photo!
